Marie Rollet and Louis Hébert settle in Québec City

Marie Rollet and her husband, Louis Hébert — an apothecary from Paris — moved to Québec City with their three children in 1617. There, they settled on 10 arpents of land (about 3.4 hectares), becoming the first European family to farm in New France and support themselves from the soil. They are thus regarded as the original “habitants.”
