1910

In January 1910, politician, journalist and French-Canadian nationalist Henri Bourassa founded the daily newspaper Le Devoir. With the motto “Fais ce que dois” (Do what you must), he sought to bring to the people of Quebec a strong conservative voice based on Catholic and nationalist principles. Through this newspaper, which he controlled until 1932, Bourassa championed the French language as the protector of faith and Confederation. He made the newspaper one of the most influential in the province.
