The Four Kings meet with Queen Anne

In 1710, four Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and Mohican chiefs embarked on a diplomatic mission to England. They were given a stately welcome, riding in royal carriages and meeting with the reigning monarch, Queen Anne. While in England, the Queen commissioned portraits of her visitors by Dutch painter John Verelst. These are among the earliest paintings accurately depicting First Peoples.
