Join us for the opening of the Witness Blanket, a travelling exhibition from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights featuring a full-scale photographic replica of the original art installation by Indigenous master carver Carey Newman (Hayalthkin’geme). This event will feature an inspiring talk with the artist and his daughter Adelyn Newman-Ting (Kesugilakw).
Adelyn, an author and passionate youth advocate, will speak to the importance of young voices in creating change. Carey will speak about his socially engaged artistic practice, focusing on Indigenous, social, and environmental issues, and about how art can impact consciousness and drive positive change.
He will also share insights into his powerful work, the Witness Blanket, which uses reclaimed items to highlight the painful legacy of residential schools in Canada. This event explores the transformative power of art to facilitate change and inspire.
The Witness Blanket is an exhibition based on the art of Carey Newman, developed in collaboration with, and circulated by, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (Winnipeg, Manitoba).
Please confirm your attendance by February 4.
