This Black History Month, spend some quality time with Olympic athlete Bruny Surin. Learn about the barriers he had to overcome in his quest for Olympic gold, as well as the challenges he faced during his career as an elite athlete at the top of his game.
This evening features an interview and conversation between Bruny Surin and well-known sports commentator Meeker Guerrier. In addition to looking at Surin’s life as a track star, the discussion will explore his post-competition business ventures and his experiences as Chef de Mission at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The event includes a Q & A period with the public.
The discussion will be followed by a cocktail reception with cash bar.
The “An Evening With” series encourages open dialogue at the Canadian Museum of History. The series welcomes top experts and personalities in history, politics, the media, sports, and the arts, exploring various issues within the context of a moderated discussion.

Bruny Surin
Bruny Surin has participated in the Summer Olympics four times, and won a gold medal in the 4 x 100 metre relay at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He is a member the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, and the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame. More recently, he was Canada’s Chef de Mission for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He is also a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Ordre national du Québec.
Born in Haiti, Surin is a well-known media personality in Quebec, and a popular sports commentator. He is also a successful real estate investor, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur, and oversees the Bruny Surin Foundation, which encourages youth to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
Meeker Guerrier
Meeker Guerrier is a prominent TV and radio presenter and sports columnist based in Montréal. Since 2020, he has been part of the team at Réseau des sports (RDS), contributing to shows such as 5 à 7 and L’Antichambre, and to RDS coverage of NBA basketball. At 98.5 FM, he provides sports commentary, and is a frequent guest on the program Le Québec maintenant. Guerrier also works with Radio-Canada. He participated in the coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In addition, he has worked with Noovo Info since its inception in 2021, and often provides English-language commentary on TSN 690, CTV, and CJAD.
